As a successful freelancer on Fiverr who generates regular and consistent income on the platform, I know how important my gig description is.
I once told a friend that if I were starting out on Fiverr today, I would know exactly what to do to get buyers queuing up to work with me, get a lot of orders and get to where I am today. When I made this remark he looked at me as if I was a ghost, this was because this colleague had been struggling to get clients on Fiverr, thankfully due to the advice that I gave this dear friend of mine, his fortunes have changed and he is making consistent and regular revenues on the platform. I believe that if you follow the same advice and guidelines that I gave him and which I will be sharing here, you will also be able to have the same success as him.
When starting out on Fiverr nobody knows you, you might be the best in your area but to all the buyers on the platform looking for a seller to work with, you are one of the many faceless amateur sellers on the platform. It can be very frustrating seeing sellers on the platform that you believe you are better than getting a lot of orders while not even one person contacts you.
If you are starting out on Fiverr or you are an experienced seller on the platform who is not getting orders, you need not worry, this is because there are ways to correct this wrong. There are many reasons why a seller might not be getting orders when starting out on Fiverr, some of the reasons why a seller might not be getting orders might be due to the seller’s gig description, gig image and the number of sellers that you are competing with in your category.
The first thing to notice when writing your gig description is that you only have 1200 words to describe what your gig is about and convince buyers on the platform that you are the right person for the job. This means that you might have a lot to say but with a 1200-word limit, you would have to strategize and think hard about the important things that buyers might want to hear.
lets us take a look at the five important guidelines to follow when writing your gig descriptions.
Write important gig details in a list form
Writing important details that you want the buyer to notice in a bulletin or list form, makes it easy for potential buyers to read your skills and know what you offer. If your gig description is in an essay format, it makes it difficult for the buyer to read it. Remember that the buyer has a lot of seller gig profiles to choose from so once he notices that he is finding it difficult to see what you are offering he will move on to the next buyer. Writing in a list format is appealing to the eye.
Prioritize important notes in the first paragraph.
The first part paragraph of your gig description is the most important, this is because what you say in the first paragraph would determine whether the buyer would choose to work with you or not, if the buyer likes what your first paragraph says, he will continue to read further and hopefully decide to work with you, If he doesn’t like what your first paragraph says, he will stop reading altogether and move on to the next gig. No matter what you do make sure to convince the buyer to continue reading further, the only way to achieve this buyer is to let the buyer know in the first paragraph that you are capable of doing the job. To prove that you are capable of providing better services than other sellers in your category, you can state how many years of experience you possess and what you can offer that your competitors can’t. You can also list all the things that you would be offering in the gig.
Avoid copying other people’s gig descriptions.
As someone who is starting out on Fiverr, you might be tempted to just copy the gig descriptions of established and successful sellers on the platform but that is very wrong. Firstly, you risk getting your account banned if you copy the gig description of another seller, this is because most sellers often click on the gig of their competitors so if they click on your gig and they find out that you have copied their gig description, they would simply report you to Fiverr support and your account would be removed, also Fiverr’s complicated algorithm can detect low-quality gig descriptions and they are quickly removed from the platform. Even if they do not remove your account buyers who are going through the gigs in your niche would find out that you copied your description from an experienced or an established freelancer and they might choose not to work with you.
Check your grammar
Yes, the grammar, the grammar of your gig description can be the reason why someone chooses to work with your or not. If a potential buyer sees that you are not able to express yourself well in your gig description or your gig contains errors, he might find it difficult to trust you to do a good job. The situation gets worse if your gig is in the content writing category, imagine a copywriter or a book writer with grammatical errors in their gig description, would you trust such a person to do a great job for you? I doubt you will. A well-written gig description without grammatical errors tells potential buyers that you are an expert in your field.
AI-Generated articles
AI can be a double-edged sword, while it can enable you to enhance your vocabulary as well as prove that you are an expert in your field it can also have a downsize. A gig description generated fully with AI would make it hard for you to convince the buyer that you are capable of doing a great job. Remember that AI is available for everyone so if your competitors are also using AI it would not make you stand out.
Although you can use AI for inspiration or to generate your points, it is advisable not to just copy a fully generated AI gig description. In the writing category, many buyers do not want the seller to use AI while working on their project, so imagine a seller indicating in his gig description that he or she doesn’t use AI, meanwhile, the same person uses AI to write their gig description. If a seller uses AI nobody would take them seriously. If a buyer reads your gig description and thinks that it sounds like you used AI they can copy your gig description into an AI detection software, if the results prove that you used AI to write it they will find it difficult to trust you.
Ai is being improved each day, and so there might come a time when it will become so good that you can use it to write the perfect gig description but until that day it is better to write your own gig description.
The suggestions and advice that I have provided in this article have helped me to become a successful freelancer on Fiverr and I believe that if you implement them you will also become a successful freelancer. Good luck on your Fiverr journey.
